ANNUAL HALL REUNION 2017

The Badock Hall Association held its second annual reunion event on 15th July 2017.  We were delighted to have as guest of honour Badock alumnus, Paul, Lord Boateng (LLB 1973, Honorary LLD 2007), MP from 1987 - 2005, High Commissioner to South Africa (2005 - 2009).  Lord Boateng, who is a Patron of the Badock Hall Association, was accompanied by Lady Janet Boateng.

The event started with a drinks reception in the Jubilee Building in Badock Hall, providing an opportunity for guests to see the new communal facilities established in that building over the past couple of years (a small gym, the Berkeley Fitness Suite; the Evans Studio Theatre; and the Marsh and Pennington Study Rooms).

The enthusiastic contingent of Badock alumni included Dr Sylvia Wilson, Chair of the BHA Committee and the other committee members, Dr John Manley – Chair of the Badock Hall Advisory Committee – and his wife Dr Jane Manley, the 2016-17 Junior Common Room President Anders Morris and two of his predecessors, Jack Deslandes and Harry Ingram.

After the drinks reception, a halls associations Reunion Dinner was held.  This was a joint event for Badock, Clifton Hill House, Churchill, Manor and Wills halls alumni, kindly hosted by the Warden of Wills Hall, Prof. Robert Vilain, in the Wills dining room.  Guests at top table included not only Lord and Lady Boateng but also the University Chancellor, Sir Paul Nurse, the previous Chancellor, Lady Hale, and the Vice Chancellor and President of the University, Prof. Hugh Brady.  After various toasts and excellent speeches by the Wills Hall JCR President, Amelia Craddock, and the Badock Hall JCR President, Lord Boateng delighted all the diners with a beautifully delivered and inspiring after-dinner address.  The approx. 170 guests then engaged in further socialising and renewing of friendships, with many adjourning to the Wills Bar until the end of the evening.

The BHA committee is grateful for the support of the guests who were able to attend the Reunion, several of whom travelled from afar, and would like to express particular gratitude to Charles Gunter – Deputy Warden of Badock Hall and Chair of the Wills Hall Association – for his vision and hard work in making this event come to pass.

The 2018 Badock Hall Association reunion dinner will be held in Badock – details to follow.
